An infected egg has the same fluffy white tuft of cotton-like growth that is present on an infected fish. Usually infertile or damaged eggs become infected first and if left untreated healthy eggs and adult fish in the tank become infected. Any fish that dares to go near the eggs can expect a very hostel reception. If after a few hours you start noticing a cotton wool type fungus growing on the eggs there is a very good chance that all or some of the eggs are infertile.
