Oscar fish Hole in the head disease is one of the most common kinds of diseases that affect freshwater fish especially fish species such as oscars discus and cichlids. Out of all the oscar fish diseases hole in the head is one of the most serious and one of the nastiest if this disease progresses. Hole in the head is also referred to as head and lateral line erosion and this disease causes the fish to lose color and develop pits or craters on the head and along the lateral line of the fish. Symptoms of hole in the head disease. Being a progressive disease the symptoms differ according to the severity of the condition. Besides the small lesions that appear on the head and lateral lines the following symptoms occur as the disease progresses 3 11 . The lesions getting bigger and hollow also spreading to the mouth gills and the region around the eyes 3 11 . If you have an oscar or other large fish with hole in the head you should give that fish all six steps of the recommended treatment.

My oscar has a small case of hole in the head and has a few white craters around his head. I bout some stress coat to help but it doesn t say how often to out it in the tank. Is this what i should be using and if so how often should i put it in the tank. My oscar fish has just recently developed hole in the head. He has a dip on the top of his head with one pin sized hole in the middle of the dip. How can i get rid of this disease.

I ve had him for about 6 months so i m not sure what to do. When my oscar started to develop hole in the head i cut his food in half and only fed him the best food i could for awhile.. I had 2 in a 45 for awhile.. You might want to look into a bigger tank. Because the water can foul much faster in that small area for that big animal.. You might be able to get by with a bigger filter but my advice is any size bigger tank..
