There is plenty of debate about the minimum size for an Oscar Tank. This is not ideal but it can be done. For starter 55 gallons is enough for keeping a single Oscar cichlid and add 20-30 gallons per Oscar fish you add in the tank.

I believe that the smallest aquarium an oscar should be kept in is a 55 gallon 48x12x21 inches .

Oscar fish In a 55 gallon tank i can only recommend one oscar with no tank mates and minimal decorations. Each oscar will need their territory and space to swim. Otherwise they will start fighting over territory. Oscar tank mates albino oscar fish. Selecting an oscar tank mate is not easy. It is important to cycle your oscar tank for 6-8 weeks to ensure that it is safe for habitation. Before adding your fish ensure that the temperature and ph are suitable. The temperature of an oscar tank should range between 74-81 f. Oscars are a tropical species and they require warm waters at all times. Oscar fish tank size in gallons varies as per their size but in the general case it is minimum 55 gallons for a single fish which is typically about 10 inches in length in captivity.

In perfect cases best size should be 75-gallon for one adult oscar fish. Capacity increases with increase in number of oscar fish to be kept. This fish also looks similar to the tiger oscar fish but tiger oscar fish features a lot of orange to red patches throughout the body compared to black oscar fish. Like all the oscar fish you should keep it in a large tank because it can grow very rapidly at the rate of 1 inch per month. The oscar is one of the fastest growing fish in the aquarium trade. A healthy specimen can easily gain 1 inch a month for the first 7-8 month of their life. To keep an oscar healthy the water should be kept clean. The minimum requirements for an oscar tank in regards to equipment include an aquarium heater an aquarium filter and some lighting system. The heater is required to maintain a stable tank temperature while the filter will help remove solid and dissolved wastes from tank water thus keeping it clean and clear for your fish. You can customise the aquarium and have all your filtration system fitted as well.

If you are going to get serious about keeping oscars and large fish then this is probably the best direction to go. Though in the tank with him is a pleco ghost which is the same size. I had to give ghost plenty of hiding places because an oscar will gut out a pleco s belly. So i don t suggest putting another fish in the tank with an oscar if the tank is smaller than a 55 gal or smaller though the tank looks nicer when there are more fish in it. An oscar fish will quite easily reach 12 inches in as little as 18 months. They are also bulky fish that can reach weights of over 2lb. However if you want to give your fish the best chance in life give it a healthy environment to live in then it is absolutely paramount that it starts its life off in the correct sized aquarium.
