The one live food I do not recommend feeding Oscars primarily because of the hazards it presents are live fish. The term feeder fish basically refers to any small fish that is used as live food for another fish normally a larger predatory species of fish. The problem with goldfish is they can contain internal parasites that if ingested by your Oscar can cause all sorts of problems.

We ve already been through the goldfish discussion so we know that is a no-no but nutritionally speaking other warm water fish such as guppies mollies platys sword tails convict fry and danios are perfectly acceptable and

While oscars eat many types of live foods not all live foods are good for them. Just as pellets come in different sizes the size of the live food fed to your pet should be appropriate for the size of the fish eating it.

Oscar fish is one of my favourite fishes. They are good predators in the water. Catching molly fishes or small fishes is their most powerful skill. To be on the safe side and to make sure that your oscars are getting fed everything that they need we would recommend feeding an equal amount of processed flake or pellet foods and live foods such as insects shrimps and worms. The base food that we recommend for oscar fish are the floating cichlid sticks by tetra.
