Without a clear photo its impossible to guess if somethings wrong or not. However when white clear stringy poop isn t normal its almost always parasites worms. Today is sunday march 16th. I purchased a baby oscar from a fish store on friday march 14th and brought him home and put him in his new tank and all seemed well.
I chose for the first day not to feed him as i wanted him to get use to things. On saturday i plopped some frozen blood worms into his tank and watched him eat them up. I noticed a weird poop color coming out of him though. My son has 2 oscars. He also recently added a sucker fish. We found the sucker fish dead yesterday with bites on his body. We think the oscars attacked him. Now this morning one of the oscars who stopped swimming as much has a white string coming from it s stomach. There are also the same strings laying on the bottom of the tank.
The strings look like they have a head. After i saw the white stringy poop last night he started to have another one. However after about a 1 4 inch or so of it being stringy and white it was attached toa normal looking pretty large and girthy red poop. He still cont his above activity ie sitting on bottom for a few min than hovering for a few min. Ich is a highly infectious disease so if you see white spots on one fish it is likely that the others in the tank have already been exposed. For this reason it is typically better to treat the whole tank rather than quarantining the infected fish. Treatments for ich include salt baths increased tank temperature potassium permanganate
