Hole in the head is also referred to as head and lateral line erosion and this disease causes the fish to lose color and develop pits or craters on the head and along the lateral line of the fish. Oscar fish with hole in the head. My oscar has hole in the head. I have tried two different treatments. I did two treatments of mealfix and one treatment of general cure.
I have been monitoring the water conditions and did about a 50 percent water change last night and stared another treatment of general cure. Hole in the head disease hith various members of the cichlid family including the oscar fish are affected by the hith disease that leads to small holes in the region near the head and around the facial area of the fish. There can be pitted areas along the lateral side of the fish and the holes can increase in size looking like small craters. Feeder fish are bad for oscars who are insectivorous. Feeder fish simply dont give the oscar the requirements for a nutritional diet such as vitamins calcium etc. There are lots of speculation about the causes of hole in the head but definitely poor nutrition and poor water quality could certainly be some contributing factors.
