When people say they are off colour it means they are not feeling well. A fish loosing its colour is a sick fish. I bought a 50 gallon tank that has 2 adult Oscars adult JD and a juvie convict.

A fish s color depends largely on diet so you need to analyze what you are feeding it. A varied diet is key for overall health as well as coloring. You want to vary the diet but you should be keeping a main portion of the diet as pellets.

Ok i understand that oscars change color when they are angry excited But we have had this oscar for years and all of a sudden he is half discolored Only one side of his body the front half is a grey sickly color and the back half is the blackish color he usually turns when angry ect. Is he going to die I have never seen him do this before and it is not changing back. .sorry i didnt mean to jump the gun and just say 90 of all oscars lose their colour iv never actually owned one but all of my buddies have had a few each and this happened to all of theirs including the skew lip thing in all the petshops around here i have never seen a decent adult oscar although my uncles oscar is now about 30cm and it is this pitch black body Fish lose color for a lot of reasons. Mostly stress sickness can cause it. But also different light sources food intakes and aging fish can change colors as well.
