In the wild they usually grow slightly larger and there have been reports of these fish growing up to 18 inches. They are omnivorous so they ll eat a wide variety of foods. Not only do Oscars grow very large up to 16 inches in captivity but they can also live for 10 to 15 years.

Unless you can provide a huge tank for your oscar and unless you can commit to long-term care you may want to select a different species. Live aquarium plants are a great addition to any fish tank including oscar tanks. Oscar fish do not normally start growing until 5 months in a new tank. They need time to adjust well to all new things including new water temperature feeding times other fish and new bacteria in the water. It can take up to around 5 months before everything in your tank is completely common the the fish. After that it should start to grow. I think the growth is very slow bcz of insufficient fish tank size. I uploaded its photo its about 6-7 years old and it is 6 inches long. I think its growth is being cut. You have permamantly stunted it. If it s now 6 years old it s fast growing days are I recommend mealworms bloodworms shrimp smaller fish not feeder fish wingless flies insect larva etc. Make sure that their aquarium is large enough otherwise their growth will be stunted. One oscar alone can thrive in a 75g wide tank however a 100g is more suitable. The first is a tank size. Oscars need atleast 75g for a single fish.

Two or three oscars would need a 120 g tank to prevent stunting issues from insufficent tank size and aggression problems such as eating other fish . The second issue is a feeding. Not growing and eating other fish indicates they may not be getting sufficent food. The entire purpose around maintaining a fish aquarium with oscars is to watch them grow into large carnivorous fish. While these fish grow aggressively on their own there are tried and true ways to increase an oscars size more quickly. This easy feat takes a little care to accomplish. Contrary to the popular belief this fish is not very aggressive. Although it can kill other fish terrorizing its tank mates is surely not on the agenda. Nevertheless avoid fish that would easily fit into the mouth of an oscar. Some suitable oscar fish tankmates are bala sharks silver dollars and jack dempsey fish.
