White feces in fish also called white stringy poop is a fairly common symptom in both freshwater and marine aquarium fish which not always accompanies a certain disease. Yes the white stringy poop does look a lot like an internal parasite. In the 7 years we have been in business seeing over 500 clients we have diagnosed it TWICE.

However most of the time the lumpy and or white stringy feces or sometimes even yellow poop in discus fish is a sign of fecal disorders such as internal diseases and in

Oscar fish But unless your fish have come into contact with any wild-caught fish invertebrates or unsanitized d cor items the chance of them getting an internal parasite is slim to none. Today is sunday march 16th. I purchased a baby oscar from a fish store on friday march 14th and brought him home and put him in his new tank and all seemed well. I chose for the first day not to feed him as i wanted him to get use to things. On saturday i plopped some frozen blood worms into his tank and watched him eat them up. I noticed a weird poop color coming out of him though. White stringy lumpy fish poop. Lumpy and or white and sometimes yellow stringy poop could be a sign of parasitic infections internal infections or even high levels of stress.

The most notorious cause of white poop is hexamita tapeworms and roundworms. These parasites often come from the introduction of new plants If it s hanging out of the fish s anus it s probably poop but if it s white and stringy that indicates an illness most likely internal parasites. If the white strings are hanging from the fish s skin fins or gills they are an external parasite probably anchor worms or possibly flukes. Fish poop is actually stringy. Its hard to tell by what you have shown in the pics. Often internal parasites are not noticeable at the fish store as the staff are meant to pull out any sickly fish from display So you really can t tell by what you see in the store.

After i saw the white stringy poop last night he started to have another one. However after about a 1 4 inch or so of it being stringy and white it was attached toa normal looking pretty large and girthy red poop. He still cont his above activity ie sitting on bottom for a few min than hovering for a few min.
