About three days ago I purchased a Tiger Oscar from my local pet shop. Once I added him into his new tank he hung out around the bottom and hid in the rocks of the tank. Finally release the oscar back into the aquarium unless tankmates are harassing him.

It was swimming around with two other oscars in the display tank but as soon as it got transported into the bag it just laid at the bottom of the bag.

Within the first couple of minutes you would realize that this fish seems to move with a definite intention.

As compared to other fish in the tank an oscar displays a sense of purpose in its movements. It does not swim aimlessly or dash around madly like the barbs or the danios. The oscar is known to be able to recognize its My mr oscar isn t well i have had him coming on 6 years now but the last 2 days hes just laying on the bottom of the tank it looks like he cant swim properly when he tries then all of a sudden he will dash around the tank and then just lie there again he s not eating either we have tested the water and that s fine and yes b4 u ask the tank is big enough 4 him Hes norm very friendly when u go I ve had this tank with 3 oscars for year. One of them had a stomach bladder infection and was floating on the top but he s getting better fed him peas . The newest 2 years old started swimming around all crazy doing spirals and swimming upside down very fast now he s lying at the bottom of the tank looking very dead.

Also he has a black face that turned white earlier today then back to black. Low water temperature can slow the digestive process which in turn can result in gastrointestinal tract enlargement that puts pressure on the swim bladder. Other abdominal organs may become enlarged and affect the swim bladder. Cysts in the kidneys fatty deposits in the liver or egg binding in female fish can result in sufficient enlargement to affect the swim bladder. If the oscar isn t ill the water quality and set-up are all good and providing it is in good condition to start with not feeding for a couple of weeks shouldn t be a problem.
